Yorkshire Young Dancers - Centre for Advanced Training

The Yorkshire Young Dancer Centre for Advanced Training is for students, male & female, between the ages of 10 & 16 years, who have exceptional potential in classical dance. Through offering a unique intensive training programme the course enables young people to achieve their potential as classical dancers.

Students can enter the programme between the ages of 10 & 12 years and can train with Northern Ballet Theatre until the age of 16. Classes are designed to run alongside the young dancers secondary education and therefore allow them to maintain as much of their home life as possible.

Students can enter the programme with no experience and can train exclusively with Northern Ballet Theatre. However the course does not exclude students from continuing to study complimentary dance techniques with their local dance teacher. All students are mentored throughout their time on the programme and follow an individual training plan.

Students in year 1 of the programme attend a minimum of 8 hours training with Northern Ballet Theatre per week and attend intensive weekends, Easter & summer courses. As the student progresses through the programme the number of weekly hours builds accordingly. Students attend weekly body conditioning, ballet and contemporary dance classes and enhancement includes the study of other dance and art forms.

Course cost for the academic year 06/07- starting at £3300

Grants are available from the Music & Dance Scheme, DCSF, for the cost of the course and are means tested.
